Task 7 looking at all aspects of all productions

The sophistication of the planning and preparation from my basic prelim task has improved dramatically, which is shown in my main task. In the prelim we where given our own story boards to work from whereas in the main task we where given nothing. We had to come up with all our own ideas and we constructed our own story boards. We planned the location, lighting, costume, actors, different shots, props, sounds and edited what we filmed. Opposed to the prelim task where we had help with the filming and all we had to do was find actors and film no planning was involved. In the prelim we where given basic shots to use where as in the main task we used close ups, tracking, medium shots, long shots, wide shots and over the shoulder shots. We filmed all day in the main task whereas we only filmed for an hour in the prelim task. The main task was much more in-depth and complicated in comparison to the prelim.

My film making skills have developed from my basic prelim brief of wide shots, medium shots and close ups to a sophisticated sequence with a visual narrative. We used tracking in our sequence to make certain shots effective, the tracking created visual imagery which added sophistication to my sequence. In the main task we filmed all day so I was able to use the camera and work throughout the day constructing various shots. In our editing we used special effects such as dissolves in-between shots and slow cuts which added a sense of realism and suspense to our thriller. The story boarding went extremely well, we found it easier telling our story visually rather than with dialogue.

My camera skills have developed as we used a various number of shots and angles in our main task we stuck to the 180degree line at all times and made sure we always got the framing for eye line matches right. I developed my camera skill to a large extent because the prelim and main task where on completely different scales and the main task pushed me to get involved more and use the camera a lot more to make our sequence effective.

In our prelim we just used the sound from the recording and ambient sound to the use of Foley work. Which contrasts to my main task, thriller.
The music and sound that we used in our main task was diegetic and non diegetic sound. We found our music from sound track pro and edited to make our thriller unique and interesting. The music fits in with our thriller perfectly and creates a ghostly cold and scary effect through various different tones. We used no ambient sound from the shoot day. We used birds tweeting and blasts of wind to enhance realism this was part of our diegetic sound we also used a drone as non diegetic sound. We researched other horror films and many contained the drone sound in their soundtrack. Therefore my use of sound and knowledge of sound has developed as you can see there are many differences, between both the prelim task and main task.
I learnt how to master new technology in the programme final cut pro and final cut server. I learnt how to use special effects in final cut and how to cut all shots together in order to make the narrative effective. I learnt how to apply sound into our narrative.
In final cut server we check in our thriller and checkout, a way to understand checking in and checking out is using a library as an example in a library you check in and check out books, which is similar to using final cut server.
